A pair of young defensemen stand out among the long list of those available. Clague played in 18 games with the Kings last season, recording six assists while logging over 17 minutes a night. A productive scorer in junior, the 2015 second-rounder hasn’t been able to lock down a regular roster spot in the NHL yet but at 23, it wouldn’t be surprising if a team took a chance on him. Fleury was selected from Montreal in expansion by the Kraken and while he didn’t see any NHL action last season, he played in 41 games with the Canadiens in 2019-20 on their third pairing. With Montreal losing Sami Niku to a concussion on Friday night, they might be interested in a reunion.
Up front, Frk has had some success in limited NHL opportunities, notching six goals in 17 games with the Kings in 2019-20 and had a 25-point season with Detroit in 2017-18. Poturalski led the AHL in scoring last season with 43 points in 44 games with AHL San Diego and had 70-point campaign with Charlotte in 2018-19.
Teams will have until 1 PM CT on Sunday to place a claim on any of these players.
Seattle Kraken Sign Connor Carrick
The Seattle Kraken have added another piece to their already-deep blue line. In confirming earlier reports that they had signed RFA forward Alex True, the team also added that they had signed UFA defenseman Connor Carrick. Carrick has signed a one-year, two-way contract with an NHL salary of $800K.
Carrick, 27, is a veteran of 241 NHL games and 158 AHL games. A player often regarded as too good for the minors, where his career scoring rate is over a half-point per game, but just not quite the caliber of an NHL starter. As a result, Carrick has bounced around in his young career and multiple teams have tried to be the ones to turn the known AHL commodity into a breakout star. Through stints with the Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Stars, and New Jersey Devils, Carrick has played well enough at the top level, but has failed to lock down a regular role. In eight pro seasons, only twice has he played in more than half of his team’s games – both with Toronto several years ago.
Carrick seems always on the cusp of taking on a larger role in the NHL and perhaps Seattle will finally provide a starting opportunity. On paper, the blue line looks full. Expansion Draft selections Mark Giordano, Jamie Oleksiak, Adam Larsson, Carson Soucy, Vince Dunn, Jeremy Lauzon, Haydn Fleury, Cale Fleury, Will Borgen, and Dennis Cholowski are all NHL defensemen and none of the younger players remain waivers-exempt. Even without Carrick, this defense corps seems bound to be broken up, even with Kurtis MacDermid also traded. The Kraken will have to chip that number down from ten to at least eight. How could Carrick benefit? If one of the departures is a right-hander like Cale Fleury or Borgen, suddenly Carrick is the third-highest righty defenseman on the depth chart. That won’t be enough to crack the Opening Night roster, but in the even of an injury could open the door for a long-term role. In the meantime, the well-liked veteran will be looked upon as a leader for Seattle’s AHL prospects.
Eric Comrie, Connor Carrick Placed On Waivers
Feb 18: Though Comrie was claimed back by the Jets, Carrick cleared and can now be reassigned to the taxi squad or minor leagues.
Feb 17: According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, the New Jersey Devils have placed both Eric Comrie and Connor Carrick on waivers, now that they are back in action and most of their players are off the COVID Protocol list.
Comrie, 25, played just a single game for the Devils after they claimed him from the Winnipeg Jets earlier this season. Though frustrating, this isn’t a new experience for the goaltender. Last season, Comrie was put on waivers by the Jets, claimed by the Arizona Coyotes, traded to the Detroit Red Wings, then claimed back by the Jets when he ended up on waivers again. This year looks like it might be a similar merry-go-round, as several teams still need some depth goaltending and could claim him.
Carrick meanwhile will likely go unclaimed as every other skater has this season, though that doesn’t mean he can’t play at the NHL level. The 26-year-old defenseman has 231 career games under his belt but has suited up just once this season.
One of the biggest reasons Carrick would slip through is his contract, which carries a $1.5MM cap hit this season. He’s scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer and it seems unlikely that he’ll be able to secure that kind of salary for 2021-22.

It’s another strong net positive day for the CPRA. The only true addition to the list comes in the form of Flyers forward Konecny. The other addition, Dzingel, has entered the required quarantine period for any player crossing into Canada after he was dealt to Ottawa by Carolina on Saturday, but by all accounts has not qualified for any other reason. Meanwhile, the Red Wings and Lightning wipe the slate clean while the Devils take a major step forward with eight players coming off the list. Joining Dahlin back at Sabres practice today was also head coach Ralph Krueger, a welcome sight after his own bout with Coronavirus.
While the situations in Buffalo and Colorado remain undetermined at this point, the Devils appear to be on the mend and Minnesota Wild head coach Dean Evason stated that he expects some of his players to begin coming off the list soon as well. If the situation in Philadelphia can be sorted out – especially with their Lake Tahoe game coming up next weekend – the NHL could be looking at a refreshingly short CPRA by this time next week.

The biggest addition here is Stamkos, who seemingly won’t be able to play in tomorrow’s game against the Panthers. Stamkos was a late scratch by the Lightning yesterday, but that was reported as injury-related. No update on his status was given this morning, but his appearance here is certainly troubling.
There are also two new names for the Flyers, including one that no hockey fan wanted to see on the CPRA list this season. Lindblom, a cancer survivor, has been added. It can’t be stressed enough that appearing here does not necessarily mean the player has tested positive for coronavirus, but everyone hoped Lindblom would avoid it entirely this season.

With Puljujarvi’s addition, the NHL has pushed back the start time for Edmonton-Montreal to give them more time to process testing. It is not clear yet if the two teams will play. It would be the first postponed game in the North Division should it be pushed back.
Two more Philadelphia players isn’t a great sign for the Flyers, who are now just ten days away from the scheduled Lake Tahoe outdoor game. It is currently still scheduled as planned, as is the Flyers game on February 18 against the Rangers. We’ll have to see whether that changes, but New York has also had a player pop up on the list today in Chytil.
Palmieri and Zacha were only removed from the protocol yesterday but now find themselves back on it (though, Corey Masisak of The Athletic tweets that this was a clerical error). The Devils are currently scheduled to play on February 16, similarly against the Rangers.

Nosek has been added today after being removed from the third period of last night’s game against the Ducks. The league has issued a statement regarding the situation:
The National Hockey League announced today that, immediately upon notification that one of its Players had returned a positive test for COVID-19, the Vegas Golden Knights removed forward Tomas Nosek from Tuesday night’s game vs. Anaheim, in precise accordance with the terms of the League’s COVID Protocol. Nosek was immediately isolated from his teammates and close contact tracing was begun, also in accordance with the Protocol.
Tomorrow night’s game in Las Vegas between the Golden Knights and Ducks remains scheduled to be played at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Rapid PCR Point of Care tests will be administered to all Players and staff on both teams in advance of that game (in addition to the daily lab-based PCR testing) and any decision regarding potential postponement will be made by the League’s, NHLPA’s and Clubs’ medical officials, following all COVID Protocols and local and federal regulations.
The Devils had two players removed today, a good sign that they are heading towards a resumption of play eventually. The team is still currently shutdown while they deal with the situation.

The big news today is the addition of Braun and Giroux, leading to the postponement of tonight’s Philadelphia Flyers game. The league is continuing to monitor the situation to see if any further postponements are needed.
