New York Rangers Sign McKegg, O’Regan

July 1, 2019 at 2:07 pm CDT | by Gavin Lee 4 Comments

The New York Rangers have already locked up the top free agent on the market, and now they’ve signed some depth forwards as well. Greg McKegg and Daniel O’Regan have both agreed to terms with the Rangers.

While they won’t be bringing the same impact as Artemi Panarin, McKegg and O’Regan still represent two options for the Rangers to use at the bottom of the NHL lineup. McKegg especially has turned himself into a legitimate fourth-line player, suiting up 41 times for the Hurricanes last season and scoring 11 points. With so few players signed past this season for the Rangers, McKegg might find himself waiting for a trade to get a real opportunity but should see some playing time in the NHL. The 27-year old has 24 points in 132 career games split between the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins and Hurricanes.

O’Regan meanwhile was actually a relatively interesting prospect at one point for the San Jose Sharks and was part of the deal that landed them Evander Kane two seasons ago. A star at Boston University for four seasons, he jumped into the professional ranks in 2016 and dominated immediately, scoring 58 points in 63 games with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL. He’s done well since then in minor league appearances, but can’t seem to carve himself out a role in the NHL. In New York he’ll have to fight for any opportunity he can get but could very well be ticketed for the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Minor Transactions: 2/18/18

February 18, 2018 at 10:07 am CDT | by Holger Stolzenberg Leave a Comment

With a full slate of games last night, the Vegas Golden Knights continued their winning ways. With their victory over the Montreal Canadiens, the first-year expansion team has become the NHL points leader once again as the team now has 82 points so far this season. With a seven-game matchup today, many NHL teams will be making moves today. Check back in as those moves are made throughout the day.

  • The New York Rangers announced they have assigned goaltender Brandon Halverson to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. He was recalled Saturday to serve as backup to starter Henrik Lundqvist against the Ottawa Senators. However, due to Lundqvist’s struggles against Ottawa, Halverson did manage to make his NHL debut last night, allowing one goal and saving five shots in 12:33 of action. Halverson was a second-round pick in 2014. With backup Ondrej Pavelec out with a strained MCL, the team had called up Alexander Georgiev from Hartford, but he was out Saturday with the flu. Halverson’s assignment would suggest that Georgiev should be ready for the team’s next game on Thursday.
  • The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz tweets that the San Jose Sharks have recalled forward Daniel O’Regan from the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL for today’s game. The scribe suggests that Tomas Hertl might not be ready to play yet after leaving Tuesday’s game with an undisclosed injury when he crashed into the boards. He already missed one game. O’Regan has been up and down for much of the season. He has played 17 games for the Sharks this year and has four assists. O’Regan has seven goals and 18 assists in 30 games with the Barracuda.
  • The Dallas Stars announced that they have sent forward Jason Dickinson to Texas of the AHL.  He has played in 13 games with Dallas this season, averaging 9:19 per night while being held off the scoresheet.  He has been more productive at the minor league level though, recording 22 points in 33 contests.

Minor Transactions: 11/18/17

November 18, 2017 at 2:54 pm CDT | by Brian La Rose Leave a Comment

As usual, Saturday is a busy day around the league with 13 games on the schedule.  Here’s where we’ll keep tabs on today’s movement as teams get their rosters set before puck drop.

  • The Sharks announced that they have recalled center Danny O’Regan from the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. This will be his first stint with the big club this season although he got into three games with the Sharks in 2016-17.  So far this season, O’Regan leads the Barracuda in scoring with six goals and six assists in 12 games.  He will take the place of winger Barclay Goodrow who has been placed on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury.
  • The Blues have recalled center Wade Megan from Chicago of the AHL, per a team release. The 27-year-old has recorded three assists in ten games at the minor league level so far this season while being held off the scoresheet in his lone NHL appearance on October 9th.
  • Detroit has returned defenseman Brian Lashoff to Grand Rapids (AHL), notes MLive’s Ansar Khan. He played on Friday night with the Red Wings but saw only five shifts and 4:02 of action.  Khan adds that Danny DeKeyser, who was transferred to LTIR yesterday to keep in cap compliance, is ready to return to the lineup.

Afternoon Transactions: 3/19/17

March 19, 2017 at 1:01 pm CDT | by Ben Levine 2 Leave a Comment

There were a handful of transactions from around the NHL this afternoon. Let’s check them out…

  • After sending him to Grand Rapids yesterday, the Red Wings announced (via Twitter) that they have once again recalled forward Tomas Nosek from the AHL under emergency conditions. Ansar Khan of MLive.com notes (via Twitter) that this won’t count against the team’s three remaining recalls. Our own Brian La Rose noted yesterday that a Nosek return wouldn’t be surprising following the injury to Darren Helm. The 24-year-old has yet to take the ice for the Red Wings this season, but he has collected 15 goals and 25 assists in 49 AHL games.
  • The Lightning announced that they have reassigned forwards Joel Vermin and Byron Froese to the Syracuse Crunch. As Bryan Burn of TampaBayLightning.com tweets, this is a good indication that the team’s three injured centers (Tyler Johnson, Cedric Paquette, Vladislav Namestnikov) are approaching a return. Vermin compiled 12 goals and 28 assists in 43 AHL games this season, and he’s collected three assists in 11 games with the Lightning. Meanwhile, Froese has appeared in six NHL games this season (four with Tampa Bay). He was acquired from the Maple Leafs in late February.
  • Winger Timo Meier and Danny O’Regan have been recalled to the Sharks, tweets Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area. Meier, 20, played in 26 games with the NHL club earlier this season, collecting three goals in two assists. In 32 games this season at the AHL level, the former ninth-overall pick has 12 goals and nine assists. Regan, a former Boston University standout, has one career NHL game under his belt. In 54 AHL games this season, the 23-year-old has 20 goals and 32 assists.
