Jets Activate Connor Hellebuyck

December 13, 2025 at 6:18 pm CDT | by Gabriel Foley 2 Comments

The Winnipeg Jets will get an MVP-boost to Saturday’s match against the Washington Capitals. Reigning Hart Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck was activated off of injured reserve just in time for Hellebuyck to take on the starting role. He underwent an arthtroscopic knee procedure on November 21st that was originally expected to hold him out for four-to-six weeks. He now returns just three weeks later.

This will be some great news for the Jets, who have posted a dismal 2-7-1 record since Hellebuyck’s exit. They’ve been among the NHL’s worst performers in that stretch, allowing the second-most goals against (38) and the third-worst goals-against per-game average (3.80) of any team. Their offense has struggled just as much, only scoring 24 goals, or 2.40 goals-per-game.

Winnipeg was rock solid before losing their superstar goaltender. They had a 12-7-0 record and 64-to-52 goal-differential prior to Hellebuyck’s absence. The three-time Vezina Trophy-winner himself had eight wins and a .913 save percentage in 14 games. That’s his lowest save percentage since the 2021-22 season, but still ranks as the sixth-highest in the league among goalies with 14-or-more starts.

Hellebuyck’s precedent often sits far above sixth-best. He led the NHL in wins (47), save percentage (.925), and goals-against-average (2.00) among goalies with at least 35 starts last season. It was enough to earn Hellebuyck MVP acknowledgement, making him the first goaltender to take home the Hart since Carey Price in 2015. Hellebuyck certainly sits in-line with that company – boasting a career-long .918 Sv% in 582 games, to Price’s career .917 Sv% in 712 games.

The Jets’ goalie room quickly dries up with their starter on the shelf. Eric Comrie took on the starting role over the last few weeks, but only managed to bring his stat line up to six wins and a .886 Sv% in 15 appearances. Thomas Milic also posted a .871 Sv% in three appearances. The 22-year-old is only one season removed from an extended run in the ECHL. With these shifts, Hellebuyck will return to an unrivaled role in Winnipeg’s starter’s crease, while Milic heads back to a competition for the AHL starting role.

Jets Recall Domenic DiVincentiis, Reassign Thomas Milic

December 8, 2025 at 12:34 pm CDT | by Brennan McClain Leave a Comment

The Winnipeg Jets have swapped backup goaltenders. Winnipeg announced they have recalled Domenic DiVincentiis and reassigned Thomas Milic to the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

DiVincentiis, 21, has spent the last two years playing with AHL Manitoba. The Bolton, ON native was selected with the 207th overall pick of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Jets, and spent the two years following his draft with the OHL’s North Bay Battalion.

He was relatively successful with the Battalion, particularly in the 2022-23 season. Overall, DiVincentiis finished his OHL career with a 77-26-7 record with a .907 SV% in 117 games. In Manitoba, though it’s largely been in a backup role, he’s managed a 19-19-3 record in 41 games with a .909 SV%.

Meanwhile, Milic heads back to the Moose after debuting in the NHL. Unfortunately, his debut did little to inspire confidence. He finished with one loss in three games with a .871 SV% and 3.46 GAA. In his most recent games against the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers, Milic allowed four goals on 28 shots.

Regardless, whether it be DiVincentiis or Milic, the Jets are simply attempting to hold down the fort until Connor Hellebuyck returns from injury. Since the reigning MVP exited the lineup in mid-November, Winnipeg has managed a 3-6-1 record while allowing 35 goals on 297 shots (.882 SV%).

Jets Not Looking For Goalie Help In Connor Hellebuyck’s Absence

November 27, 2025 at 8:57 pm CDT | by Brian La Rose 2 Comments

The Jets find themselves in a tough situation with star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck out for several more weeks.  In the meantime, they’ve only won one of four games without him and as a result, they now sit sixth in the Central Division and outside a playoff spot.

However, it doesn’t appear that Winnipeg will be looking for some short-term help.  In the latest TSN Insider Trading segment, The Athletic’s Chris Johnston reported that the Jets aren’t shopping for a netminder.  Instead, they’re content going with backup Eric Comrie and prospect Thomas Milic until the back-to-back Vezina winner returns.

Comrie, a pending unrestricted free agent, had a great return season in 2024-25, posting a strong 2.39 GAA with a .914 SV%, his best numbers since his last year in Winnipeg in the 2021-22 campaign.  Things haven’t gone as well this season, however, as those marks check in at 3.02 and .897 respectively, a little below league average through his first eight appearances.  Still, he has shown enough over his stints with the Jets to warrant some trust to try to get them through this stretch.

As for Milic, he’s in his third professional season after splitting time between AHL Manitoba and ECHL Norfolk in an effort to get him as much game action as possible; he logged 90 games between the two leagues over the last two seasons.  This year, he was off to a strong start with the Moose before being recalled as he had a 2.14 GAA and a .921 SV% in nine outings.

With Winnipeg starting a back-to-back road set on Friday, it seems likely that Milic will make his NHL debut in the near future.  If he does well, that would go a long way toward giving GM Kevin Cheveldayoff the confidence to stay the course while waiting for Hellebuyck to return.

Jets Sign Thomas Milic To Entry-Level Contract

May 3, 2024 at 5:50 pm CDT | by Gabriel Foley 1 Comment

The Winnipeg Jets have signed goaltender Thomas Milic to a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal will carry an AAV of $841.7K beginning next season. Winnipeg drafted Milic in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Draft and signed him to a minor-league contract in October.

Milic has since played out his first professional season, starting the year in the ECHL but climbing into the AHL starting role by February. He totaled 19 wins and a .900 save percentage in 33 AHL games this year, leading the Manitoba Moose in all three stats. Milic also represented Team Canada in December’s Spengler Cup, allowing two goals on 18 shots in his only appearance. It was his fourth time representing Canada internationally, having previously played in the World U17 Hockey Challenge, the World U18 Championships, and the World Juniors.

The climb to AHL starter has to feel rewarding for Milic, who went undrafted twice before Winnipeg selected him in his final year of eligibility. He posted strong numbers throughout parts of four seasons in the WHL, totaling 60 wins and a .917 save percentage in 91 games in juniors – but the 2023 World Juniors earned Milic his acclaim. Still draft-eligible, he won all five of his starts and posted a .932 save percentage en route to Canada’s gold medal win. He’s carried the momentum from a strong juniors career into the pros, now being rewarded with his first NHL contract.

Milic will get another chance to compete for the AHL starting role next season, going up against Oskari Salminen and Domenic Divincentiis, the only other minor-league goalies Winnipeg has under contract. Winnipeg will also need to negotiate a new deal with NHL backup Laurent Brossoit, who made up one-half of the team’s William M. Jenning Trophy win this season.
