Stars Sign Remi Poirier To Two-Year, Two-Way Contract

June 16, 2025 at 5:48 pm CDT | by Gabriel Foley Leave a Comment

The Dallas Stars have announced they’ve signed goaltender Remi Poirier to a two-year, two-way contract beginning next season. Poirier has spent the last three seasons with the AHL’s Texas Stars.

Dallas originally drafted Poirier in the sixth-round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He signed his entry-level contract two seasons later, after finishing a fourth year with the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques. His pro career kicked off in the ECHL, but he earned a promotion to the AHL after posting three shutouts and nine one-goal games through his first 22 games. He finished his rookie pro season split between tier-two and tier-three, ultimately finishing the year with a .928 save percentage in 23 ECHL games and a .907 Sv% in 16 AHL games.

The momentum from year one was enough to propel Poirier to the top of a closely-contested Texas goalie room last season. He played in 38 of Texas’ 72 games on the season, and posted a team-best .904 save percentage and 17-16-4 record. He seemed set to continue on as Texas’ starter into this season, until the Stars signed Magnus Hellberg to a one-year, two-way contract last August. Hellberg assumed the lion’s share of minutes over Poirier, though Poirier’s .908 Sv% in 31 games still trumped Hellberg’s .904 Sv% in 41 games.

Hellberg recently signed with Djugardens IF of Swedens’ SHL for next season. That move should open the door for Poirier to once again step into the AHL spotlight. He boasts a career-long stat line of a 43-32-8 record, .906 Sv%, and 2.86 goals-against-average in 85 games and four seasons.

Stars Recall Four Players From AHL

May 18, 2024 at 10:26 am CDT | by Brian La Rose Leave a Comment

After bringing up a trio of players (Mavrik Bourque, Alex Petrovic, and Lian Bichsel) earlier this week, the Stars have added to their taxi squad of Black Aces.  The team announced (Twitter link) that they have recalled forwards Fredrik Karlstrom, Oskar Back, and Matej Blumel along with goaltender Remi Poirier from AHL Texas.

Karlstrom saw action in Dallas in 2021-22 and 2022-23, spanning eight games in total where he had an assist but played exclusively for Texas this season.  The 26-year-old had his most productive year in the minors, notching 21 goals and 23 assists in 72 games during the regular season while averaging over a point per game in the playoffs.  That should help his case as he reaches Group Six unrestricted free agency this summer.

Back, meanwhile, is wrapping up his entry-level deal and has yet to see any NHL action.  The 24-year-old hasn’t been a big scorer in the minors – he matched his career-best with seven tallies in 59 games for Texas – but he set a new benchmark for assists with 29.

As for Blumel, he played in six games with Dallas last season, registering his first career NHL goal and point in the process.  The 23-year-old finished second on Texas in scoring this year, tallying 31 goals and 31 assists in 72 games while leading them in goals in the playoffs, adding five more in nine appearances.  Like Back, he’s set to be a restricted free agent this summer.

Poirier’s addition is strictly for extra depth as he’ll be their fourth-string netminder for the rest of the postseason.  The 22-year-old played his first full AHL campaign this year, posting a 3.18 GAA with a .904 SV% in 38 games but improved on those numbers (2.60 and .907 respectively) in seven playoff contests.  He has one year left on his entry-level contract.

Dallas Stars Recall Remi Poirier

March 21, 2023 at 9:21 am CDT | by Gavin Lee 1 Comment

Just a year after signing his entry-level contract, Remi Poirier is headed to the NHL. The young goaltender has been recalled today by the Dallas Stars, replacing Matt Murray on the roster as the backup for Jake Oettinger as Scott Wedgewood deals with an injury.

Poirier, 21, is in his first season as a professional, splitting time between the Texas Stars of the AHL and Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. In ten appearances with the former, he has posted a 5-3-2 record with a .913 save percentage. That number is better than any of the seasons he put up in the QMJHL, and suggests that the Stars might have found a bit of a diamond in the sixth round of the 2020 draft.

This recall will not likely result in any playing time, but it’s a bit of a financial bonus for the young goaltender after a strong season. Dallas is in action tonight against the Seattle Kraken, where Oettinger is expected to make his 54th appearance of the season. Texas, meanwhile, has a game of their own against the Coachella Valley Firebirds, where Murray can get back into game action.

Dallas Stars Sign Remi Poirier

March 10, 2022 at 2:36 pm CDT | by Gavin Lee 2 Comments

The Dallas Stars have added a little more goaltending depth to the system, signing Remi Poirier to a three-year, entry-level contract. The young goaltender was a sixth-round pick of the team in 2020 and currently plays for the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL, where he will remain for the rest of the season.

It’s not always so easy to stock a prospect pipeline with goaltending talent, but the Stars appear to be set for the immediate future. Jake Oettinger is already showing he’s ready for the starting gig at age-23, Adam Scheel is making the transition from the college ranks nicely, and now Poirier–selected 185th overall–is a front-runner for the QMJHL goaltender of the year award.

In 29 appearances, Poirier leads all qualified netminders with a .919 save percentage and 2.24 goals-against-average while sitting third in wins with 17. The 6’2″ goaltender has been on a steady development path since entering the CHL in 2018, posting better and better numbers each season. If that kind of progression can continue, he could very well be challenging for the starting role with the Texas Stars as soon as next season.

That’s when his contract will kick in, meaning he’s now signed through 2024-25 on his entry-level deal.
