Edmonton Oilers Sign Adam Erne To PTO

September 12, 2023 at 3:39 pm CDT | by Josh Erickson 9 Comments

The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Adam Erne to a professional tryout agreement, per a team release.

Erne spent the last four seasons in Detroit, scoring 27 goals and 35 assists for 62 points across 241 games in a Red Wings jersey. The gritty, 6-foot-1 winger is coming off a two-year, $4.2MM contract signed following an arbitration filing in 2021.

Last season was a disappointing one for the 28-year-old, who found himself on the waiver wire in early February for the first time in his career. He spent around a month with AHL Grand Rapids, recording five assists in nine games. The Red Wings recalled him before the trade deadline in March, and he spent the rest of the season in the big leagues.

Erne, the 33rd overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, grew into a bottom-six role with the team that drafted him before they dealt his signing rights to the Red Wings in exchange for a fourth-round pick in August of 2019.

He joins Sam Gagner and Brandon Sutter as PTO adds during Edmonton’s camp, although given his lack of history playing center, Erne has a foggier path to earning a contract. He’ll have to demonstrate he can provide more than youngster Dylan Holloway or Mattias Janmark in order to get a contract, whereas Gagner and Sutter are only battling with strict depth center Lane Pederson for the fourth-line pivot job.

Unless Erne would be okay with an AHL assignment out of the gate, it’s unlikely this stint in camp will result in an NHL contract. Edmonton’s NHL roster availability is extremely limited – per CapFriendly’s projections, they only have room to carry one extra skater on their roster in order to be cap-compliant at the beginning of the season.

Holland is grasping at straws. His entire strategy is to give McDavid and Draisaitl 40 minutes a night combined and hope for better results than last season. This club isn’t even close to a Cup.

      *Yawn*

      Wilf making Wilf comments again.

The Oilers have an impressive top 6. Not just McDavid and Draisaitl.

Not many teams can say they had 4 FW reach PPG status, and 3 D at .5PPG (plus another d fall 1 point short of .5PPG).

Plus had a rookie G finish 2nd in Calder voting and their “starter” have a down year by anyone’s standards.

Edmonton is a favorite for many reasons that expand beyond just 97 and 29. But keep doing you Wilf. We all get a good kick out of it.

Like your 1st line states *Yawn* ive grown extremely tired of Wilf. Edmonton has an excellent team. A bit more depth in their bottom 6 would be nice, but on that note, all of Janmark, Kostin, Ryan, Foegele, McLeod and Bjugstad had double digit goals in their bottom 6 last season. Another top 4 Right D to bump Ceci down the lineup is about the only true hole on the team. Sometimes PTOs are just a GM doing a solid to a good person to give them a crack at extending their NHL career, not necessarily with that team, but so that eyes are on them and maybe another team gives them a deal. Holland isn’t grasping at anything, he’s being a good human. Wilf could take lessons from him.

Lmao, why did you reply to me and tag wreckage? We are 1000000% not the same guy hahaha. Ive ripped him too a few times over the years. Wilf on the other hand has rarely said anything on here that anyone has agreed with.

@JoeCarter Who tf is Babo? I can’t recall a thing he has said in here ever, but whatever. He’s entitled to his opinion. As for “ripped him” I don’t see it that way. We may have had conflicting views a few times, but its always been civil. As far as I can remember. Mind you, I am about 3 months in to a backpacking adventure across South America and can’t remember much beyond where I am staying right now. As for the bottom 6 you suggested, Bjugstad only had 4 of his goals last year with Edmonton. And 6 points total. He was a nice piece to have and did actually endear himself to the Oilers fans with his work ethic, but if he wanted much more than a veteran minimum, he was barking up the wrong tree.

@Babo… Who tf are you? Seems like a Wilf alt. I’ll wait to see if you post anything relevant before I hold judgement. And won’t even bother responding to your nearly incomprehensible post that seems to be an attempt at attacking me, my sexuality, and I’m not sure what else. Have a great day.

Yes, ripped was probably an exaggeration on my part. And i agree, I’ve never seen Babo until yesterday and hes more likely a Wilf 2nd account then anyone else i could think of on here who would require one. Enjoy your travels. I did the US, Canada and Europe treks in my earlier years before Marriage and a daughter settled me down. Good times!

Yo, Millennial Btches … I, Babo, am a phd candidate, Classics, UFlorida, having.. TRIGGER WARNING… grown-up …outside Buffalo, skating on double blades at three.
God, what an embarrassment reading your semi-illiterate posts, a bunch of sniveling and rambling fan boys.
Christ, exchange numbers and do your belly rubbing over private texts.
” has rarely said anything on here that anyone has agreed with” …. I agree with him and that ruins your “universal” statements. You three are NOT the ENTIRE population of readers, but certainly bemusing to know you’re all 25+ mommy boys. “Attacking my sexuality”? Egads, Yes, Dear, you’ve found your daily victimization quota and you can sleep well tonight, just have mummie send you funds.
