Each year, the Masterton Trophy is awarded by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association “to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to ice hockey.” Voting isn’t done at large; one player from all 32 teams is nominated by their local media chapter. That eventually gets narrowed to three finalists and a winner closer to the awards ceremony, but today, each club announced who they’re putting up for this year’s honor:

While names like Jonathan Toews and Gabriel Landeskog are definitely worthy candidates IMO but the story talked about the most among all these nominees this season has been without a doubt the striving perseverance, consistent dedication, and the push of a breakout star performance of the late bloomer Darren Raddysh.
Will he win? It’s probable but not likely when it comes to the media especially towards Tampa (which is not a media favorite). Should he win? I would most certainly say so in this matter.
It’s not a bad pick but I feel like it almost always someone like Gabe / Johnny and those would certainly be my picks (honestly don’t know which one I’d pick). Raddysh is not terribly different than say Gus Forsling a couple years back. Certainly happy for him but my guess it’s one of the other two.
