The NHL has made its stance public in regards to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, releasing a statement explaining what actions it will take:

The National Hockey League condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and urges a peaceful resolution as quickly as possible. Effective immediately, we are suspending our relationships with our business partners in Russia and we are pausing our Russian language social and digital media sites. In addition, we are discontinuing any consideration of Russia as a location for any future competitions involving the NHL.

We also remain concerned about the well-being of the players from Russia, who play in the NHL on behalf of their NHL Clubs, and not on behalf of Russia. We understand they and their families are being placed in an extremely difficult position.

The statement came just moments after the IIHF suspended Russian and Belarusian clubs from several international competitions. More from around the league:

  • The Vegas Golden Knights have been struggling of late, losing their last two and six of their last ten. They still sit in a playoff position in the Pacific Division, but things are as tight as ever, with the sixth-place Vancouver Canucks just ten points out of first place in the division. It’s good news that Robin Lehner is set to return tomorrow night, but head coach Peter DeBoer told reporters including Jesse Granger of The Athletic that both Max Pacioretty and Mattias Janmark are out tomorrow and “wouldn’t call either close” to a return. Pacioretty has played just 25 games this season–though he does have 15 goals and 27 points in those appearances.
  • Speaking of Vancouver, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was on CHEK TV today and spoke about the Canucks current trade talks. The insider explained that the Canucks have “thrown everyone’s name out there” except for Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, and Thatcher Demko, asking teams how they view and what they would pay for them should they become available. Still, the Canucks are still not out of the Pacific race by any means and don’t really have to make any decisions by the trade deadline, with players like J.T. Miller still under contract for next season and Brock Boeser still a restricted free agent this summer.

I say again…offer all the Russian players full US citizenship if they renounce their Russian citizenship.

Add losing his star players to the pile of hurt being piled on that decidedly not smart villain.

But, the people who insist or demand the Russian players speak out clearly don’t understand the risk they or their families face.

Getting Ovie to utter some anti-Putin soundbite that won’t change anything isn’t worth getting his parents Navalnyed.

I hate lemmings on the internet that try to bully people into everything. This included. Theyre a bunch of self righteous big mouths doing more harm than good.

Shut up you know nothing about russia, shut up. You’re wrong on covid all the time. Now you want to be on a high horse again talking about russia like you know it all but you dont so just shut up. Ovie is a US citizen and is set on his life in US. His parents are not in jeopardy whatsoever. Noone forced him to go Team Putin and lick “huylo”‘s ass so what’s just caught up with him is his own fault. Ovie is a great athlete but he’s just a coward and a hypocrite like Le Flop. He’s basically regarded as American by many in russia. In such a difficult time we dont need not his comments nor his support. Let him rot

So, you are saying Russia and Covid are good? I’m saying they are bad.

FYI: 1,674 US deaths from Covid in just the past week.

So, 3 times as many Americans have died in that time period from listening to morons about Covid…and then Covid…than Ukranians have died from a WAR launched against them…with rockets and tanks and stuff.

Are you deaf or blind or stupid? You know nothing about russia and youre about as many times right about russia and everything related as youre right about covid. You think russia is putin? Well youre right in some capacity but just in some. People in russia are as terrorised by him as ukranians but when youre trying to defend ovie whos a US citized youre not defending some russian guy youre actually siding with putin because ovie is putins b*tch and it was his personal choice so to hell with that guy. AT LEAST ovie could get responsible and give his clear stance on the news instead he chose to cover his butt with his tail between his legs spitting some gibberish (“hope it end soon i sweer got”). Youre defending not a russian guy whos gonna face difficulties because of his public stance but just a coward and in this time we need this cowards comments as much as your comments on russia here. THAT you just cant understant. Why i am sure that you know crap about russia? Does name Artem tell you anything?

Regarding the Canucks, I bet Jimmy would love to move Boeser in some repeat version of the Neal for Hornqvist deal.

VAN needs more grit among it’s key players, not just around the edges. It’s core is too soft.

The problem is that there aren’t many (any) young Hornqvists out there.

    Keep Miller for this year

Trade Boeser if you can (D-man please!)

See how the off-season goes. If Miller nets you what you want then move him. If not, have him on your top line again next year and maybe you have another competitive team. If not, move him at next year’s deadline.
