Bell Centre Won’t Have Fans For Thursday’s Canadiens Game

December 16, 2021 at 4:12 pm CDT | by Josh Erickson 29 Comments

As originally reported by RDS’s Patrick Friolet, there won’t be any fans in attendance for tonight’s Montreal Canadiens game at the Bell Centre versus the Philadelphia Flyers at the request of Quebec public health officials.

This is the first game this season for which attendance will be limited. The news comes just a day after the government of Ontario announced they’ll impose a 50% capacity limit at major events, affecting the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators.

It’s unclear as to how long the moratorium on fans attending Canadiens games will last. At this time, it only applies to Thursday night’s game. A release from the team states that they’ll provide an update on the status of their Saturday game against Boston tomorrow.

The announcement came just two hours before puck drop, with the Canadiens sending out an email to ticket holders.

The release states that the team has secured an assurance that beginning in January, they’ll be permitted to have at least partial attendance back at the Bell Centre. Tonight’s and Saturday’s games are their last home games of 2021.

This Variant should start going down to weeks after New Year’s. Due to the fact that everybody’s going to be congregating and partying for New Year’s Eve Christmas.

Misery loves company. Anything Ontario can do, we can do better. By “better”, we mean not subjecting the Habs faithful to the ongoing tire fire (in person)… (listen to Dan & Sergio and see if more Flintstones references come up. We feel for them having to call those games, BTW.)

Don’t understand why they couldn’t just keep doing what they were doing and just let the vaccinated in. I try to avoid the covid news as much as possible but from my understanding is that while this new variant might be more transmissible, it’s nowhere near as severe. Seems like there’s not really a point in taking a step back, especially if it’s not going to be a collective effort.

Need to wait a bit longer to see if things change, but if Omicron is as contagious AND as weak as it seems right now, this would be an almost best case scenario at this point.

This is a two part question…

Didn’t we try the no fans already in March 2020? Seems like it was followed by a global “pandemic.”

Shouldn’t all the non vaccinated “CEMENTHEADS” who don’t social distance or wear masks be dead by now?

@Rask the way uh huh uh huh – You have the order wrong there. The global pandemic was underway, then the “no fans” policy came into play. We all lost, no matter how you slice it.

Quite a few of them are, actually. One in *four hundred* Americans are dead from this disease — twice as many as died on the battlefield over four years in WWII, more even than died in the Civil War on both sides, with no end in sight.

      Had you not noticed?

So masks, vaccines, and social distancing haven’t worked… have you not noticed?

I feel like you’re not having a good faithed argument but those things you’re saying haven’t worked have quite literally flattened the curve, which has in turn saved lives. Are you suggesting the people in charge should not be trying to do that? If you’re only argument is that they haven’t ended the pandemic, then I guess you’re correct.

150,000 Americans who wouldn’t have died had they been vaccinated have died since June from Covid.

      Tragedy or Darwinism? You decide.

There could be twice as many people dead instead. 5.3 million dead could’ve been 10 million. 12 million. At what point would you say, “Oh yeah, probably should’ve tried some stuff”?

      Myopic whiner.

      In one state:
Roughly 75,000 people have died of covid.
      Population is about 29,000,000.
      That is not 1/4

      Confirmed covid cases about 4,300,000
      Recovered about 4,200,000

I’m sure Texas is not letting fans in to HS football games and are social distancing and are wearing their masks

No you just don’t get it! We need to sterilize half the population that still retains some common sense. Only this way we’re gonna get bAcK tO nOrMaL! Also we need to solve the semite problem!

Amen novacaine. While I decided to get vaccinated early on because I am an in-home caregiver and am closing in on 60, doing whatever the govt. wants will only bring more of the same and worse. We have clearly seen that.
