As a reminder, inclusion on this list does not mean that a player has tested positive for Coronavirus or even that they have been confirmed as a close contact to another positive person. Included in the NHL’s list of possible reasons for someone being on the list is are the following:

We’re now just a day away from the Golden Knights being without McNabb for game two against the Avalanche, as today’s list had no changes. Vegas was run out of the building in game one and could use the veteran defenseman to help slow down the Colorado attack. McNabb last played on May 24 however, so could actually need some time to get back to speed once he is removed from the protocol.

Still no changes today, meaning McNabb is still unavailable to the Golden Knights. The defenseman has now been on the list for six days. The team has today and tomorrow off before resuming their series against the Avalanche, but it is unclear if McNabb will be removed by game two.

No changes to the list except that the Minnesota Wild are no longer included after losing last night’s game seven. Ryan Reaves was removed from the protocol yesterday and suited up for the Golden Knights, giving them back their physical bottom-six presence. McNabb, who provides the same sort of physicality for the defensive group, has now been on the list for four days and is still unavailable to the team.

It’s good (but not the best) news for the Golden Knights, who have Reaves and Krebs available to insert into the lineup for tonight’s game seven if they choose. Unfortunately, McNabb will still be unavailable for the team as they try to stay alive and keep the Minnesota Wild from making an impressive series comeback.

It’s terrible news for the Golden Knights who now have to try and play game seven against the Wild tomorrow night shorthanded. Three players are currently unavailable, though Reaves already missed the last game due to injury. Krebs, who played four games for the team earlier this season, hasn’t yet made his NHL playoff debut and doesn’t look like he’ll be able to tomorrow night unless his name comes off quickly.
The Avalanche confirmed that Megna tested positive for coronavirus, meaning he won’t be back anytime soon. Colorado will get its second-round series started on Sunday against whoever wins the Vegas-Minnesota game.

After two days without a single name on the list, the NHL wasn’t so lucky today. Megna and McNabb have been added and will have to sit out for their respective teams. McNabb’s exclusion is obviously more important given the Golden Knights game this evening against the Wild. He played just over 13 minutes on Monday night but will have to be replaced for tonight’s game.

NHL Announces Blank COVID Protocol Related Absences List
May 25: The list is empty again today. Moving forward we will only publish it if a player is added to the protocol.
May 24: The long-awaited day has finally arrived. When the NHL released it’s COVID Protocol Related Absences list on Monday evening, it contained no names. It is the first time since the list originally debuted at the start of the regular season that the contents has been empty. Granted, the list now only includes the 14 active playoff teams as opposed to all 31 clubs, but it still marks a major achievement in the league’s battle against the Coronavirus.
Of course, the final step toward a league-wide clean bill of health actually came with the elimination of the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. When the Colorado Avalanche completed their sweep of the Blues, they also ended the seasons of the only two players on the latest CPRA list: David Perron and Nathan Walker. In fact, every player who has appeared on the list since the playoffs began on March 15 has now been eliminated – Perron, Walker, and Blues teammate Jake Walman and Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov, whose team was bounced by the Boston Bruins on Sunday as well.
With the NHL already feeling confident enough in its COVID-19 status as to allow relaxed policies to vaccinated teams, the hope is that this empty CPRA list becomes the norm and not the exception. With postseason results obviously carrying much more weight than regular season results, the league does not want to see any of their playoff series tainted by COVID results. The Blues’ absences, particularly Perron’s, were certainly felt, but as major underdogs against Colorado anyhow, the league escaped without much controversy. They hope that can continue throughout the postseason and that the CPRA list becomes a permanent thing of the past moving forward into next season.

The Blues were able to get Jake Walman off the list on Friday and he was making his NHL playoff debut on the third pairing for St. Louis today in their loss to Colorado. With their season coming to an end with a 5-2 loss to the Avs, this may be the end of Perron and Walker appearing on this list as only teams that are still participating in the playoffs are listed on a daily basis.

The Blues are still without Perron and Walker, though Jake Walman did exit the protocol yesterday and take warm-up with the team. Unfortunately, St. Louis is barely hanging on in their first-round series against the Avalanche and it might not matter even if Perron is back in time for tomorrow’s game. The timing of his positive test couldn’t have been worse as the Blues were already in tough against the powerhouse Colorado team and desperately need their leading scorer.

Walman rejoined his teammates at practice this morning but will not play tonight after spending the last few weeks in the COVID protocol. It is very good news that he has been removed, especially as the Blues were down to the final defenseman in the organization. Still, Perron’s absence is more important to the team who find themselves down two games to none.
