Feb. 10: Ho-Sang was released from his contract today without ever playing a game for the club, the league announced.
Dec. 30: Former Islanders first-rounder Joshua Ho-Sang is attempting to restart his professional career. Salavat Yulaev Ufa of Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League has signed him to a two-way deal through the end of the season, the league announced.
Ho-Sang, once viewed as New York’s top prospect following his selection at 28th overall in 2014, has appeared in just 18 regular-season games over the last three years. He suited up once for Salavat in 2022-23, recording an assist, before spending the last two years on and off duty with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades. He racked up 19 points in 17 games with the Everblades and led the Kelly Cup Playoffs in assists in 2024, proving he can still be a top-flight contributor in a lower-tier pro league.
Now 29, Ho-Sang only ever got into 53 NHL games with the Isles, scoring seven goals and 24 points, with his final appearance coming in December 2018. He’s since spent time in the minors in the Maple Leafs’ system as well as stints in Sweden during the 2020-21 campaign.
Ho-Sang contemplated retirement following his short stint with Salavat last time around. They’re now bringing him in off another lengthy bout without a contract to suit up alongside Canadiens 2025 first-rounder Alexander Zharovsky, who leads the club in scoring with 28 points in 32 games.

Should have picked a different number.
Beyond a self own…a self curse.
LOL, #9 as in Gordie Howe was also the BEST. But he did not mind someone else in the league wearing #9, he considered that a tribute.
That’s why everyone wears 99 as a tribute, right?
Yes, Mario is a pr!ck who couldn’t even bring himself to congratulate Ovi.
It doomed Josh to failure in life.
That # is retired league-wide, 66 is not……… You really need to think about context.
OK, so…
Wearing the number is a tribute, like Howe, yes? Therefore, NOT wearing the number is a ______?
Why did the league ban “tributes” to Gretzky?
What on odd thing to care that much about.
Why care about any of it…?
There’s your answer.
So then what if, for arguments sake, that Gretzky’s great-grandson was the next coming and wanted to wear 99. Would the league tell him no?
He would wear 66, because it is available!
That was actually my thought too lol
The best that never was.
ho-sang or bellows worse islander first round pick ? ?
That honor would go to Scott Scissons who was picked #5 overall. Some guy named Jaromir Jagr was picked #6.
My mistake. Scissons is still the worst, but I got the numbers wrong. Jagr was fifth and Scissons sixth.
My pick would be 2000 #1 pick overall Rick DiPietro
Two more that would make honorable mention are Griffin Reinhart, and my favorite who was picked ahead of Ho Sang Michael Dal Colle. Also anyone picked by Grandpa Lou when he was GM, except for Cole Eiserman who should be here next season.
Hard to consider Reinhart a bust for the isles considering the trade to the oilers landed the Barzal pick.
If Reinhart hadn’t been a bust he wouldn’t have been traded to Edmonton.
Bloody hell, Scott F’n Scissons. That was the day and age where damn near everyone was obsessed with getting a Cam Neely clone, so half the teams in the league were drafting big stiffs at wing from the WHL, whether they could play hockey or not. I thanked the gods of darkness at the time that our affiliation in Springfield had changed so that stiff never took the ice in an Indians uniform. (Ironically, he had a pretty good season that one year in 93 with CDI.)
DiPietro wasn’t in any way, shape or form a bust. He just wasn’t an All-Star, but he was a perfectly decent starting goalie who gave them 300 games.
Are they still paying him and Yashin? :D
Brett Lindros whom GM Don Maloney said was the better Lindros could also rank right up near the top. Posthumously the worst would be Duncan MacPherson who was killed in a skiing accident in Austria. RIP.
