The Bolduc/Mailloux trade isn’t being viewed in the big picture. Bolduc is a very good forward and was a big part of the Blues success after the 4 Nations. But Snuggerud did not play until the last week of the season, and Holloway was injured for the last 2 weeks of the season and the playoffs.
So if you’re comparing the 25-26 team overall to the 24-25 team, Snuggerud is replacing Bolduc. Or if you’re comparing the 25-26 team to the playoff roster against Winnipeg, Holloway is replacing Bolduc. Either way, at no point in the entire season did all three of those guys play together, so in 25-26 you’re going to have two of them on the team at once, just like last year.
To beat the dead horse, here are the forward groups from last year vs. the upcoming year:
24-25:
Buchnevich, Thomas, Holloway(/Snuggerud)
Kyrou, Schenn, Neighbors
Mathieu Joseph, Sundqvist, Bolduc
Toropchenko, Faksa, Walker
25-26:
Buchnevich, Thomas, Snuggerud
Kyrou, Schenn, Holloway
Mathieu Joseph, Suter, Neighbors
Toropchenko, Bjugstad, Walker
That looks like an overall improvement to me, especially if Dvorsky (or someone else) ends up taking that third-line wing spot from Joseph. Plus they replaced Leddy with Mailloux.
Yeah I don’t agree with the assessment of the Blues from that chat at all. They are in a great spot and with a full offseason under Monty and a hopefully healthy roster I’d expect them to finish well above where they were last season.
The pens are gonna want a lot more than just Isak Rosen for Rust. Also, the kings deal for Rakell doesn’t work either…take out the 2nd and the other no name guy and add Greentree and a 1st and it makes more sense. The Karllsson one was closest but I think he brings more back if the pens eat 50% of that contract
