Several San Jose Sharks Placed In COVID Protocol

November 1, 2021 at 1:45 pm CDT | by Gavin Lee 22 Comments

Nov 1: The Sharks have updated the situation. Dahlen, Karlsson, Middleton, Nieto, Simek, Vlasic, and Boughner remain in the protocol, while Kevin Labanc has been added to it. Cogliano has been removed.

Oct 30: Several members of the San Jose Sharks organization have been placed in the COVID protocol according to Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News, including five players. Head coach Bob Boughner is also out tonight, leaving the team to assistant John MacLean in his absence. Seven players have been put in the protocol; Andrew Cogliano, Jonathan Dahlen, Erik Karlsson, Jacob Middleton, Matthew Nieto, Radim Simek and Marc-Edouard Vlasic will all not play tonight. Additionally, San Jose Barracuda player Noah Gregor has also been placed in the protocol.

In the meantime, the team has recalled Nicolas Meloche, Ryan Merkley, Nicholas Merkley, John Leonard, and Jaycob Megna to fill out the roster for this evening. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic tweets that there are ongoing discussions with the league, but for now the game is still scheduled to proceed. The game has been delayed 30 minutes, however, to allow for the completion and analysis of further test results.

MacLean, while mostly serving as an assistant throughout his coaching career, does have some experience running a bench. In 2009-10 he was the head coach of the Lowell Devils, and then took over the New Jersey Devils for the 2010-11 season. Unfortunately, his time as head coach of that club didn’t last long, as, after a 9-22-2 start, he was fired during his rookie season with the Devils bringing Jacques Lemaire right back out of retirement to finish the season. It appears he’ll get another (albeit short) chance as a head coach tonight.

As a reminder, being placed in the protocol does not necessarily mean that these players have tested positive for coronavirus. They will not play tonight, but the team has not clarified how long they will be unavailable. Logan Couture, who will also miss the game with an illness, is not in the protocol according to Kurz.

Healthy young athletes placed in Covid protocol. What a joke. This country is dead. Following the non-science.

Yeah, you’re following the non-science alright, MiddleIn, glad to see you’re admitting it. You would think the cementheads would sooner or later figure out that a highly contagious pandemic that’s infected ONE AMERICAN IN EIGHT and killed three quarters of a million people (y’know, more than died on the battlefield in every war America fought *combined*) is something where the time to faff around with it’s long past.

But don’t let me stop you. I figure you need to go find the YouTube video where they show you how to build the tin foil hat to protect you against the Jewish orbital mind control lasers.

Explain to me why everyone involved in the NHL has at least 2 shots but Covid is still running wild in the NHL & now the NFL with strict testing only have players/coaches sit out games cuz they tested positive. Follow to science right into the pockets of Fauci & the dirty Dems trying to take down this country.

Happy to help, buffalobob88. See, here’s the thing. The NHL is run by real businessmen (+), not ftard con artists who claim they’re Great Wheelers & Dealers just because they inherited daddy’s billions. Those businessmen have investments to protect, and since for the most part they don’t think there’s such a thing as “Fox News science,” they take seriously the notion that a pandemic that’s already killed *one in four hundred Americans* (y’know, about 300 times as many as bought it on 9/11, for which this country’s freaked out for 20 g-d years) is nothing to screw around with.

But I get that the tinfoil hat brigade — people like you — just can’t wrap your heads any more around the notion that any idea a Democrat agrees with isn’t automatically wrong!wrong!wrong!, because, well, REASONS. So nothing anyone here’s going to say will convince you of anything.

(+) – okay, except for Melnyk and the Pegulas.

Not 100%, but pretty sure this is a website committed to the sport of professional hockey, not politics. If some of you ftards wish to discuss local politics might I suggest going to one of those sites instead. It would be appreciated by the rest of this world, and the hockey world if you would contain your thoughts on local politics to those forums instead of here.

    Kay? thanks. g’bye.

@JD – That is, until @Gavin, @Brian, @Zach, or @Josh say “Time to shut this one down, it’s out of control!”

Honestly wouldn’t mind if that happened more frequently. Seems like people are coming here more often to NOT discuss hockey.

@JD – Count this as two votes for that. It’s crap that COVID impacts every area of our lives, especially hockey, but the political implications and their discussions do belong elsewhere.

Hopefully, the Sharks have their contest winners ready for the “Play for the Sharks this week promo”, while half of the team is in COVID protocol. Three games this week, kids, so make it count! Otherwise, Doug W. may have to sign you to a one-year, two-way deal at league minimum.

If you’re really lucky, he might throw the Martin Jones contract at you. It wouldn’t take too much to outperform what he did on it.

@G – That’s three votes, so far! Now, to work on the team mess that is CHI, eh? If things don’t change, their own record books will have a pile of “worsts.”

These players gotta feel like they were sold a bill of goods. Take a vaccine to keep you from getting sick so you can stay on the ice, then they get sick. So what did it do for them?

Top players all over the league having to miss games from being sick and testing positive, and we are only 3 weeks into the season.
