Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon Tests Positive For COVID-19

June 20, 2021 at 5:36 pm CDT | by Zach Leach 20 Comments

The good news: the NHL released another empty COVID Protocol Related Absences list today, indicating that no one from the Montreal Canadiens nor the opposing Vegas Golden Knights was infected in relation to Montreal head coach Dominique Ducharme testing positive. The bad news: another prominent non-player in the series has now tested positive.

TVA’s Renaud Lavoie was the first to report that Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon has tested positive for COVID-19. The team has stated that McCrimmon is self-isolating and will follow the NHL’s COVID Protocol and all other local health policies. McCrimmon traveled to Montreal for Game Three of the semifinal series and, if his positive test is confirmed, will be there for some time. Ducharme was placed in a mandated 14-day isolation following his positive test on Friday.

The timing of this positive test for McCrimmon looks especially bad given that he and President George McPhee were shown on Friday night’s television broadcast in a suite without masks, in violation of the league’s COVID Protocol. The NHL has reportedly already spoken to the team about this issue, but now that it has coincided with a positive test there has to at least be discussion about a fine, much like how the Washington Capitals were fined when their COVID Protocol violation led to two players being infected. Granted, this is fortunately not a case of a player catching the virus, but the optics are still poor, especially with the league and the Canadian government making exceptions to try to preserve the structure and integrity of the postseason.

The anxious waiting will now continue for another day or two to ensure that there still has been no spread to the locker rooms. In the meantime, Game Four will proceed as scheduled on Sunday night, as will travel back to Las Vegas.

I saw on TV the shot of McCrimmon and McPhee in the luxury box without mask on. And thought that didn’t look right

@TheRickestRick – *If* it has been at least two weeks since their last vaccination *and* their city/state policy relaxed the mask requirements, it would be “OK.” Just not by your standard or mine. I won’t be mask-less for the near future, but am now working on the iron-on jobby for the new masks that says “Gord Miller sent me – he wants his money back!” :)

But they work for the league.
The league says these are the rules.
The coaches behind the bench are wearing them.
League personal needs to wear a mask, other then players

@TheRickestRick – (Assuming the TV shot was in Montreal) Did those two cross the border? Yep. Are they not aware of the other country/province’s rules? Apparently, not. If in Vegas, that would be different, but in Montreal, NHL and Quebec’s rules apply, right? If you get conditioned to go back to “normal” and you forget where you are, it looks like you don’t care or you just forgot. Where are NHL personnel to remind them, though? Are these really league rules, or just suggestions? Not all of Canada has the same policies (yet) for second-vaccination folks. BUT, there should be due diligence on visitors to adhere to local regulations.

That mask didn’t do the Canadians head coach much good then, did it?

Masks are theatre. There is no science behind it.

@Gbear – True, there is no real science to support their B.S., but some idiots on the planet are actually jailing people for not succumbing to the edicts. I believe in masks…when I have to get the damn mower out and kick up crap loads of dirt to harvest for the next big Trade Deadline deal! You, however, have to get the bags of pucks. We need to trade for somebody *really* good, like Eichel or Patrik Stefan! Maybe even Alex Kovalev, but only if he still has his lucky Trolls! :)

@Gbear – We should graduate to the new technology – welding masks that have an oscillating “Cylon Eye”, guaranteed to scare COVID right back to China!

Gear, just because you ignore it or don’t understand it does not mean that there is not science that supports it. I wish the “YouTube experts” would realize that they don’t have any real expertise.

Just because you refuse to acknowledge that there is and has never been any science behind wearing cloth face masks doesn’t in any way bolster your accusation that others are ignorant of scientific facts. But if you want me to provide you with links to a myriad of people in the scientific field who have written extensively on the subject, I’ll be happy to do so.

They still think they are in USA. This why canada is slow to open borders for people living in USA.

So apparently the positive test is America’s fault?? Typical.

I still don’t understand why we can’t help out Canada. We have red states full of Rite Aids with vaccines expiring in their freezers and going to waste.

Give them to people who need them AND actually want them.

And we also have red states doing much better than blue states on covid stats. Funny how that works.

It’s funny how having way less people means having fewer cases works?

Cases are still dropping in heavily vaccinated states. They are now rising again in states with low vaccination rates.

Is it funny how that works?

Florida and Texas are low population states?

The stats refute your assertion here. Look ’em up!
