Alexei Bereglazov Loaned To KHL

November 6, 2017 at 12:20 pm CDT | by Gavin Lee 5 Comments

Last we heard on Alexei Bereglazov, a decision was to be made in early November on whether the would utilize his out clause and return to the KHL. The New York Rangers defender has been playing in the AHL all season after being a sought-after free agent this summer. Now here we are in early November, and the head coach of Magnitogorsk has told Alexei Shevchenko of Sport-Express that Bereglazov will be heading back to his former Russian team while Larry Brooks of the New York Post confirms the assignment with the team.

Bereglazov, 23, was one of several KHL players to come over this summer in hopes of making a name for themselves in the NHL. He joined the likes of Jakub Jerabek, Victor Antipin and Vadim Shipachyov as undrafted players who suited up in Russia last season, only to be pulled over to North America. That group is obviously a mixed bag, with only Antipin playing more than a handful of NHL games so far.

The Rangers will maintain rights to Bereglazov, and could bring him back next season. For now, he’ll technically play as a loan to Magnitogorsk, burning the first year of his entry-level contract. While it hasn’t worked in New York so far, this is better news than a potential termination or retirement like the Shipachyov situation.

Yet another, in a long line of mismanaged assets by GM Gorton. It’s a disgrace.

The Rangers seem as though they just can’t do anything right this year. What needs to be done to change their season around? This is an open question for anyone. No Ranger fan has said anything good about this situation with their GM or coach.

Sorry, but if Toronto can Trade Phaneuf and Kessel, then Gorton should have found a way to move Marc Staal. We have(had) some promising D prospects and instead, Staal and Kampfer are our third pair. Give me a break. Why even bring AB here and promise him a spot and them send him to Hartford, and THEN, Trade our 1b centre for DeAngelo. It’s just a matter of time before Pionk calls “foul” and asks to be moved. It’s almost like Gorton is just not in sync with the league, outside of Arizona!
I’ll take a 4 game win streak, but Hayes is being used as a penalty killer, Paul Carey is on this squad, until recently , Buch is on the 4th line…. Grabner 4th line….. it’s just ridiculous

Oh…. and Our big trade deadline acquisition last season and offseason signing in Smith, is in the press box for 3 straight games, while Kampfer, Holden and Staal get critical minutes? I don’t dislike Kampfer, he’s a serviceable D7 , but come on….

Hal, you are a suffering Ranger fan. Thanks for your response though because you shared some great information, from a fans’ standpoint about the Rangers. I am a Red Wings fan & they have been mismanaged by Holland ever since the cap was put in place.
One of the major things that needs to happen is for the bad contracts to expire or be traded away. Trading them is nearly impossible. The Rangers are in a very similar situation as the Wings are, with a bad GM who needs to go. But, that still would not fix the outrageous contracts that are dragging both teams slowly down. Why did the Rangers sign Brendan Smith to the ridiculous contract & term? Serious question, Brother because I haven’t heard much about that signing.
