Injury Notes: Lehner, Jenner, Oilers

March 17, 2022 at 4:58 pm CDT | by Josh Erickson 14 Comments

Multiple reports over the past day suggest that Vegas Golden Knights netminder Robin Lehner could be in danger of missing the rest of the regular season with a knee injury, adding to the laundry list of injuries that Lehner’s had to deal with this season. Backup goalie Laurent Brossoit has gone into a free fall since Lehner’s injury, with his save percentage dipping all the way down to .895 after a solid start to the season. Third-stringer Logan Thompson has also really struggled in his few starts this season, so there seems to be no clear answer within the organization at the moment. It’s likely going to force Vegas’ hand to trade for a goaltender at the deadline, as the team is eighth in the Western Conference and out of the playoff picture in terms of points percentage.

Other injury-related notes from around the league today:

  • Columbus Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner remains week-to-week, per head coach Brad Larsen. Jenner suffered a lower-body injury nearly a week ago now, putting a stop to what’s been a career season for him. His 23 goals through 59 games are tied for the team lead, he’s third on the team in points with 44, and he’s averaged over 20 minutes a night as the team’s best center.
  • Jesse Puljujarvi and Kris Russell are both making their returns to the Edmonton Oilers lineup tonight against the Sabres, per the team. The return of Russell signals a fully healthy blue line in Edmonton, allowing youngsters Philip Broberg and Markus Niemelainen to return to the AHL for additional development time. Puljujarvi returns to his normal office in the team’s top-six, where he had 28 points in 46 games prior to his injury.

@DarkSide830 – Both Bonesy and Ralphie are unavailable. Some lame excuse of “We have to broadcast Leafs games!” they said.

Conference call w/ Bill Foley, Kelly and George (1-800-Get-Flower). If they pull it off, Pierre LeBrun will look in their direction and say, “How ’bout THEM cowboys!”

You raise a topic I actually find very interesting…

How Canadians decide their random NFL fandom.

I get some are close to Buffalo or Seattle or Minnesota, but many just seem to randomly pick a team.

Ex. Pierre LeBrun, the least objectionable Cowboys fan.

Why are you questioning this southern Ontarians fandom of the LA Chargers?

@jdgoat – I was a fan of the Chargers, way back in the day. John Hadl, Lance Alworth, Tobin Rote, and company, just to name a couple of those guys. But, we, on this side of the border, wonder how the allegiances to these teams come about for anybody outside our borders.

Great example…in the Chargers’ case the answer cannot be frontrunning or bandwagoning.

I’ll assume it’s the powder blue (LT era) jerseys until notified otherwise.

@forwhomjoshbelltolled – “Ex. Pierre LeBrun, the least objectionable Cowboys fan.
” – that may very well be true. While I don’t get crazy listening to Canadians’ discussions of the NFL, it seems like some (I don’t know think Pierre would be in this category) like to get on the bandwagons of historically successful teams or the current front-runners. It is kind of funny for those of use who date back to just prior to the existence of the AFL, where we watched games just to see the best players showing their stuff, regardless of which league they played in. Today, it seems like our neighbors north of the border are more interested in the NFL and NCAA than we are. My only NFL-tagged gear is a Dallas Stars hat. It was a manufacturing mistake, probably by somebody who saw the star on the logo and assumed it was the Dallas Cowboys, even though the color doesn’t match. Their mistake=my bargain purchase!

Cry me a River it looks good on the idiots in Vegas I hope they don’t even make the playoffs it just goes to show how smart they thought they were getting rid of their goaltender and also bringing in a coach to replace the coach they had but yes karma is a you know what looks good on you Bill Foley

It’s either reacquire the Flower or sell for the Knights. There just aren’t any other options.

@Nha Trang – Remember, VGK might want to re-acquire Flower, but there’s no guarantee he would want to go back there. We could ask Allan Walsh, but he might be busy picking out new cutlery for some future online posting.
