Only outcome I have a problem with is Don Sweeney as GM of the year. Waddell made the Mrazek signing and plucked McElhinney off waivers, made a great trade for Hamilton and Ferland(while also not dealing Ferland at the deadline). Armstrong put together a team who beat Sweeney’s club. Made a huge trade for the eventual Conn Smythe winner in O’Reilly. Fired Yeo which led to Berube being HC. Stood pat at the deadline. Decided to give Binnington a chance

I have a problem with Adams, but Chief only coached 1/2 the year but took them from dead last to in.
    Trotz was deserving though.

Got to love this voting general manager of the year went to the team that lost the Stanley Cup finals and the runner-up is the general manager of the team that won the Stanley Cup finals.

So what did Binnington have to do to win the Calder? Win two Stanley cups?

Matt Murray won two Stanley Cups as a rookie. Get to work, Jordan.

There is no point in complaining about these awards as they should no longer be taken seriously. There are so many clueless bloggers voting now, it’s meaningless.

really, ive never understood why these awards are voted on before the games that count the most, but either way, Binnington carried that team all year. i know compairing a goalie and a skater is hard, but what more does a goalie need?

you know these awards are voted on earlier than the last week right? indo think Sweeney winning is wrong as I feel both other GMs are more deserving, but the voting committeevdidnt have the Cup Finals to use as a reason to vote otherwise

Did you see the Calder votes? It wasn’t even close. Binnington was good but basically EVERY VOTER thought he didn’t deserve the Calder

The awards are voted on before the playoffs started. Why? Because its a regular season award not a postseason award. If you wait til after the playoffs, then you’re going to have a lot of the writers vote with recency bias. If we’re going to wait til after the playoffs are over, does that mean Brad Marchand and Ryan O’Reilly should be in consideration for the MVP awards since they finished tied for the most points during the playoffs? Should Kucherov’s amazing regular season immediately be dismissed because Tampa got swept?

I actually didn’t know they were voted on before the playoffs… I feel like the vote should be after the playoffs.. I mean those are the important games right? Plus it’s a bigger challenge to perform well in the playoffs. In my opinion if a rookie goalie plays such a huge part in winning the Stanley cup it should trump anything that happened during the regular season… I’m sure Binnington isn’t complaining right now though hahaha
