Urho Vaakanainen Suffers Concussion

October 23, 2018 at 8:22 pm CDT | by Gavin Lee 10 Comments

The Boston Bruins are in Ottawa tonight to face the Senators, and already have lost one of their young players to injury. Urho Vaakanainen has been ruled out of the game with a concussion, after taking an elbow from defenseman Mark Borowiecki in front of the net. Vaakanainen was coming in to try and shovel a loose puck into the net when Borowiecki extended his arm to try and keep him away from goaltender Craig Anderson.

Vaakanainen was playing in just the second NHL game of his career after being recalled on an emergency basis, but will likely be out for at least a few days now while he deals with the head injury. In the meantime, the Department of Player Safety is surely looking at the play and will decide tomorrow whether to have a hearing with Borowiecki for possible supplementary discipline.

The 19-year old Bruins defenseman was the 18th-overall pick in 2017, and is a very promising prospect that could make their blue line one of the most dangerous in the league over the next few years. Borowiecki meanwhile was recently involved in a questionable incident of his own, one in which he though Brendan Gallagher of the Montreal Canadiens should have faced some supplementary discipline. His public critique of the DoPS likely won’t buy him any favors.

Dirty hit from a dirty team in a classless region (ontario). Not going to call ottawa (auto-wah) disgusting, but from what I’ve heard, it sucks too. This senators dbag better get at least 10 games for his HIGH HEAD HIT. Gotta love the KARMA with the ROUT tonight though. Especially with the chump senators getting SIX SKETCHY PP’s and barely capitalizing on one of them, d-mans fault in the end for not clearly. Boston had THREE PP’s and scored on TWO of them, lol. A BLOWOUT ensued, but could just as easily have been 9-1.

I do understand you’re trolling but I just want to be clear that if Brandon Carlo is standing two feet farther from the net, it would’ve been a 3-3 game going to overtime. Oh, and the fact that Ottawa carried the play that game

You’re the only dbag trolling. You’re not even a Boston fan. GTFO.

Boston was the better team ALL GAME LONG. They had 3 PP’s to 6 PP’s for the sens. You must be NEW to the game. Are you slow? WTF are you talking about? Did you even WATCH the game? Ottawa didn’t CONTROL an IOTA of the game….. AHAHAHAHAHA. Perhaps it’s best FOR YOU to JUST STOP commenting. You look like a noob tard on this site, mlbtraderumors etc regularly. Stop while you’re AHEAD….. or BEHIND in your case. LOL

Just a thought. Go Bruins AND Red Sox, from a REAL fan actually from Title Town USA.

Yeah…. THAT or the Bruins are just too narrow sighted playing C-L-E-A-N hockey these days. That said, all the constant injury B.S. IS getting old…. FAST. Just look at LAST SEASON for proof. How many DAYS, NOT WEEKS, did the Bruins dress their best players all TOGETHER? lol

Bootom line, this T-E-A-M barely ever gets to “field” its desired players. Real shame, hope the tides turn for them sooner than later.

Well looks like Player Safety had set up a meeting with Borowiecki for this morning. Should get a couple of games for that. Interesting to me was Paajarvi coming in front of the net and he had his elbow up high as well if Borowiecki missed Vaakanainen, Paajarvi would have connected with Vaakanainen’s head as well.
