Caleb Jones To Miss Eight Weeks

October 25, 2025 at 9:55 am CDT | by Brian La Rose 4 Comments

After spending most of last season in the minors, Caleb Jones was off to a nice start to his season with Pittsburgh, playing largely a regular role on their third pairing.  However, that early momentum will be on hold for a while as the team announced (Twitter link) that Jones has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury that will keep him out of the lineup for roughly eight weeks.  He suffered the injury in the third period of Thursday’s victory over Florida.

The 28-year-old is in his first season with the Penguins after signing a two-year, $1.8MM contract with them in free agency, securing a one-way commitment despite his limited NHL action the year before.  Jones has suited up in seven of eight games so far this season, picking up an assist along with 15 blocked shots and 10 hits in a little over 17 minutes a night of playing time.

Jones has 255 career NHL appearances under his belt over parts of eight seasons with five different organizations.  When he has been in the lineup, it has typically been in the role he had with Pittsburgh to start the year, spending time on their third pairing with a bit of penalty killing action when needed.

With seven other healthy blueliners on their active roster, the Penguins don’t necessarily need to call anyone up to replace Jones on the roster.   However, fellow blueliner Harrison Brunicke can only play in three more NHL games before a decision needs to be made about burning the first year of his contract.  If they decide to send him back to junior, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a recall come within the next week or so, earlier if they decide they want to take more time before making that choice.

If you are going to not allow comments on articles about pervert Hart, then stop putting up article updates every day? Are you guys part of this perverts PR team? Sad downfall in quality on this site. Perhaps time to cease membership.

I will add that it is generally Trade Rumors’ policy to pre-emptively close comments on articles that discuss domestic violence or sexual assault. I did not initially do so on the Hart article, but made that choice after the content in that comment section turned into consistent and repeated violations of our commenting policy, which can be found at this link (link to prohockeyrumors.com) and at the bottom of our desktop website.

We provide contract updates for players when they become available. Hart’s contract information was released today, hence the update. That’s not special treatment, nor anything to do with PR; that’s merely our standard procedure for all players. In the meantime, given that this is a post about Caleb Jones and not Carter Hart, comments in this post should be limited to discussing Jones.

@Brian & Josh i understand and respect the decision to restrict comments on those situations. But across the entire Pro___Rumors group, it has been left open on other situations. Such as many times on the MLB site so the people can discuss Trevor Bauer stories, or on the NFL site to discuss many questionable players news. This story had comments closed as soon as it was posted in its intended thread. I think a more mature way of handling it would be to see if people can hold a mature conversation about it in the room before locking it. Anything towards the TC situation has been blocked before us the users could even put in our 2 cents. I think the group should be afforded the opportunity to discuss it, provided its in a civilized manor, before shutting the conversation down. If it goes off the rails… Then shut it down and start banning/blocking people for breaching ToS.

As for Caleb Jones, would it be against the terms to say something about how his mother has interfered with his career because she has made comments on social about him and his brother playing in Canada because she is a staunch American? That opens the door to politics. But its on the Caleb Jones topic.
