Buffalo Sabres Recall Jack Quinn; Reassign Peyton Krebs

January 13, 2023 at 11:21 am CDT | by Gavin Lee 8 Comments

The rotation continues in Buffalo, where the Sabres have recalled the recently loaned Jack Quinn and sent Peyton Krebs down in his place. With their plan of carrying three goaltenders, moves like this should be expected on a daily basis.

Quinn, 21, never really did join the Rochester Americans, and is expected back in the Sabres lineup for Saturday’s match against the Nashville Predators. The young forward has 17 points in 33 games this season after completely obliterating the minor leagues last year. Quinn was the AHL’s Rookie of the Year with 61 points in 45 games.

Krebs meanwhile has struggled this season, recording just three goals and nine points through 34 games. The 21-year-old was part of the Jack Eichel trade coming over from the Vegas Golden Knights last season, and looked to be a key part of the Sabres future. While there’s certainly no giving up on him, a reset might be in order while he tries to get things moving in the right direction. Krebs hasn’t scored a goal in his last 11 games, and has averaged just over 13 minutes in that stretch.

To be clear, he too likely isn’t actually headed to Rochester. The Sabres will rotate through players to keep them fresh and participating while they figure out how to get Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen into the crease as often as possible. They will eventually need to find a more permanent solution, but with Quinn, Krebs, and J.J. Peterka all waiver-exempt, they can continue to move them in and out of the lineup with ease.

My gawd! Can’t keep doing this with the kids. The only thing they should be doing is rotating out Asplund and Hinostroza.

Huh? Pump the brakes a lil.
Krebs & Quinn are both under 22yo.
The Sabres are the youngest team in the NHL.
I do eventually see a trade or waiving of Comrie if he doesn’t figure it out soon. The Sabres even put Krebs on a line with Grigs & Okposo but outside of a few games Krebs Is struggling this year. Last season if Krebs scored a goal the Sabres basically won all those games. You remove Anderson, Okposo & Grigs from this team & outside of that 1 Russian Dman all the other Sabres are all 26yo or younger.

Give the goalies a chance with a more solid physical defense

Mickey Mouse organization can’t even develop future youth with veteran mentorship. Krebs Peterka and Quinn don’t have assigned specific roles poor puck management turnovers poor defensive play / backchecking / unnecessary risky passes creating odd man rushes. Lol. I can hear “hey Ma…the meatloaf!” The Sabres are doing it right. The only problem is they are closer to the playoffs than what people expected and aren’t going to lose players for a first round exit.

I wouldn’t want the sabres in the playoffs, those games will look like the last 3 games. Eight players contracts are up, lets see who replaces them

Oh OK. Both Quinn & Krebs have under a season worth of NHL games under their belts. They are also above .500 even with a 3 game losing streak. Quinn also has over 22 points this season so far. The Sabres also had a 8 game losing streak earlier this season. Youngest team in hockey that will be getting younger going forward.
