Ryan Reaves Suspended Two Games

May 31, 2021 at 6:15 pm CDT | by Gavin Lee 15 Comments

The Department of Player Safety has decided on a two-game suspension for Vegas Golden Knights forward Ryan Reaves. The suspension comes after Reaves was given a match penalty last night for his actions in the third period, kneeling on the head of Colorado Avalanche defenseman Ryan Graves. As the accompanying video explains:

It is important to note that this incident is retaliation for an earlier hit that Graves threw on Golden Knights’ forward Mattias Janmark, which knocked Janmark from the game. Reaves and the Golden Knights acknowledge that, angered by the earlier hit, he takes this opportunity to send a message to Graves as payback. And while some of the actions taken by Reaves could be sufficiently penalized by the on-ice officials, the totally of Reaves’ actions, combined with the game situation and the retribution involved in the play, necessitates supplementary discipline.

Reaves has been suspended twice before, with the latest coming in late-2020. He has also earned two fines, meaning there were four previous incidents considered for this discipline. Graves did not suffer a serious injury on the play.

With the Golden Knights down after game one in the series, they’ll have to find someone else to add the physicality that Reaves brings. He’ll miss the next two while serving this latest ban.

Note to DeBoer leave him out games 4 to 7. If you any kind of good coach..you are in trouble anyways…

Note to Pete DeBoer – 7-1 last night might have just been the Avs blowing the carbon out, before they come in with a fleet of Koenigsegg Ageras that have only one gear: really fast. Better hope the stripes try gift you a bunch of PPs.

Errata – “…try gift you a bunch of PPs”
Better – “try gifting you a bunch of PPs” – or “…try to gift you a bunch of PPs”
This happens when you start laughing at the ever-increasing angst out of the G.T.A. in Game 7.

Need one of those “Are shakeups coming to the Leafs?” posts. Have a few thoughts on Dubas and his “plan” and his methods.

Reaves & the Leafs don’t belong in the league.

I think many players would disagree the leafs don’t belong in the league. I’m sure when the cap was going up it wasn’t because of Ottawa and Florida.

Is there anything less intimidating than a leaf? The Maple Leafs have the dumbest and least intimidating team name in the league. After this many years of winning nothing when it matters and accumulating an extensive history of choking, I think the team could use a complete overhaul. New jersey and logo design, new team name as well as new FO personnel since it apparently wasn’t Mike Babcock’s fault after all.

Of course, I doubt this will happen since they’re an original six team and changing anything with regards to jersey, logo or team name is unlikely, but I think the organization needs to shed it’s skin and be reborn into something, anything, that isn’t what they are right now. Whatever is going on in Toronto, it’s permeated very deep into this organization to the point that I don’t think it can be easily cleansed.

This was an epic collapse to the Canadiens who have made me a fan of them by the way. I love the way they play and they probably should have had Cauffield in the lineup from the start. I’ve always hated the Leafs (don’t know why, I hated them when I first got into hockey when I was 11 and never changed), but I do have a tiny grain of sympathy for them. I think they need to do something drastic and extreme to change the culture, the look and the feel of that team in every way they can.

If they’re lucky, they can be something more intimidating than a leaf that falls from the tree every playoff year and proceeds to decompose into the earth harmlessly.

Reaves took a chunk of his hair.
    I’m a VGK fan but I think that’s a little too far.
There should be no hair pulling in hockey.
    2 games seems fair.

Ryan Reaves is a great player and there is no way he should have gotten 2 games after the dirty hit Graves did

Please tell me this is sarcastic… he will be known as a cheapshot artist long after he’s retired. Outside of that his career will be a fart in the wind.

It was a clean hit. There wasn’t a penalty called. No fine the next day.
