i dont understand the nhl draft order.

why have matchup by division and not simply best record 1 to 8 if you aren’t even recognizing that teams who were eliminated in the first or second round are placed in order of elimination.

SJ makes it to the second round by beating Anaheim yet they have a pick closer to the top than Anaheim.

Teams like Mini and Toronto really got screwed as they had to face a better team than those who finished worse than them and now they also have a lower pick not reflective of where they were eliminated

If you check that link to the CapFriendly tweet, you’ll see that at some point it must have been changed from playoff seeding to season points earned. So in that context, Anaheim had 101 points to Pittsburgh’s/San Jose’s 100 points. I do hope they go back to the playoff round exit order of before though.

sorry I should have been clear. I know what change they made, just don’t understand why. they might as well not even change it for division champs and conference champs. It’s a mishmash of philosophies and makes no sense.

I don’t like it one bit but the hockey these past two playoffs have been great.
