Shootouts have ruined the game, as far as I am concerned the NHL needs to go back to the old way. If a game is tied at the end of regulation it ends in a tie. I am sure the players would love that.

Don’t really care how the games end to be honest but when is the NHL finally going to adopt a better points system? WAY too many games go to overtime in the modern NHL, because the points system sucks and rewards teams who go to overtime. Every game should be worth 3 points: 3 points for regulation win, 2 for overtime/shootout win, 1 for overtime/shootout loss, nothing for regulation loss. So yes, the current system may not be affecting the standings, but the way the system SHOULD be, rewarding teams for regulation wins, probably would. You’d see less teams content to play for overtime when they’re going to loss a point by doing so, which should be the goal of the game, to ensure teams are playing hard for 60 minutes, not farting around in the last 5-10 minutes of games because they don’t want to lose that guaranteed point and free chance at still getting a full 2 points.

I would just use playoff rules all year.
