I’d hesitate calling Dougie Hamilton a top 4 defender. He has not been good defensively. He has been a liability in his own zone. Yes, his offense has been there. However, his decision making process in his own end continues to be a work in progress. He makes a lot of poor decisions with the puck. He often tries to make the great play, instead of just making the smart play. He is also out-of-position a lot in his own end. You aren’t a top 4 defensemen if you can’t play in your own zone. Hamilton’s big contract is probably the worst thing for him. It put pressure on him to a player he isn’t ready to be.
