Malcolm Subban’s biggest issue is mental toughness. He has a hard time focusing for an entire game. He always seems to have mental lapses and these often lead to pucks ending up in his net. He has had this issue in the AHL for a few years. He is never going to make it to the NHL permanently if he doesn’t find a way to be tougher mentally

Yes!

What are the average GAA and save percentage for starting goalies in the AHL? I think providing those numbers would give a better understanding of Subban’s progression in the AHL
Doc Halladay
Over his 3 years in the AHL, here’s where he’s ranked among AHL goalies with at least 25 starts:
2013-14 (out of 44 goalies)
GAA – 5th
SV% – 7th
2014-15 (out of 50 goalies)
GAA – 19th
SV% – 12th
2015-16 (out of 47 goalies)
GAA – 15th
SV% – 22nd
His numbers are slightly above average for the league but despite being in Providence for 3 years, he has yet to establish himself as a viable AHL starter. Like many goalies, he just hasn’t turned that corner.

Thanks Doc!

Don’t blame the city of Boston for his lack of mental toughness, I have yet to see anything from the kid in providence that suggests he’s going to play consistently well in the NHL.

His only chance is to get his head on straight… He has the tools so they either try getting another goalie coach that can get his head right or a shrink… otherwise he’s done…

Don’t give up too early on the kid. Recall how we kept Ross Brooks and let future Vezina trophy winner Dan Bouchard go to the flames. Brooksies’ age and experience was valued over Bouchard’s potential. Did not work out all that well. Love the Mac though! Don’t even consider letting him leave!

Why does it feel like so many goalie prospects don’t pan out
