If the NHL doesn’t go to the Olympics, there are going to be some serious competitive balance and salary cap issues. If one team doesn’t allow their players to go & then the Capitals let 7 guys go, it isn’t going to be an even playing field when it comes to games. Also, how is the salary cap affected by players going? The NHL almost has to put in a contingency plan for the cap. A team could have a problem putting a team on the ice during the Olympics if they lose multiple players to the games, but don’t have the cap space to call up 5 or 6 players. I also wonder what happens if a player like Erik Karlsson goes to the Olympics against his owners wishes. This whole thing could become one huge mess

I would go and play anyways . Does not matter what the NHL owners think. Euro nations should bar their players from.playing In The NHL from then on

It’s this silly little thing called a “contract”. If Melnyk says no, Karlsson doesn’t go.
