The Bruins needed to re-sign Liles. They had a hard time transitioning from defense to offense last season. They struggled making that pass out of their own zone. Liles did a very good job for the Bruins after he came over from Carolina. The Bruins best d-man at making the transition pass is Krug & he likely won’t be ready to start the season. That makes Liles even more important. Liles won’t be a bottom pair defenseman for the Bruins. He’ll likely start the season in the top 4. The bigger issue for the Bruins is having both Kevan Miller & Adam McQuaid still on the roster. They have $5.25 million wrapped in those two defensemen. They are basically the same player. They are both slow, stay-at-home defenseman who have injury histories. Both aren’t great passers. The Bruins don’t need both of those guys on the roster. When they re-signed Miller in the off-season, McQuaid should’ve been moved out.
