Are Kovalchuk’a numbers just really that good for the KHL or are the numbers inflated for whatever reason? Like I know that the KHL is supposed to be the 2nd best league in the world but even 36 points in 28 games seems absurd.

Kovalchuk sits second in KHL scoring this season, and is one of five players scoring more than a point-per-game. He’s come just under a point-per-game in previous seasons, but he’s stepped it up this season. To give context, his numbers this season are on par with Radulov’s previous KHL seasons. I don’t think there’s point inflation in the KHL per se, but his numbers are obviously not equally transferable to the NHL.
